Music

The mission of the Monson Arts Council Music Committee is to provide Monson and the surrounding communities with the opportunity to gain an understanding of and appreciation for music, as listeners and performers.

In order to serve this mission, we anticipate coordinating our efforts in the following areas:

  • To support people of all ages in their quest to make music a part of life-long learning.
  • To provide opportunities and venues for participation in musical performance and learning activities.
  • To partner with the public schools to ensure that students have diverse and ongoing opportunities to have music in their lives.
  • To inform the community about music events, and performance and educational opportunities, in the surrounding area.

MAC Releases Summer Concert Schedule

The Monson Arts Council will again sponsor a series of concerts at the Dave Grieve Gazebo in downtown Monson every fourth Thursday evening from May through August. The concerts are free, and will begin at 6 pm. Bring a lawn chair & your favorite snack, and come listen to the sounds of summer!

The schedule of performers is set, as follows:

  • May 25th: Kristen Graves
  • June 22nd: The Glenwoodmills Band
  • July 27th: Special K
  • August 24th: Tammy and the band T.I.M.E

The first performer is very special! Kristen Graves is a singer/songwriter and humanitarian from Fairfield, CT, who has been mentioned in both The New York Times and Rolling Stone as part of the new wave of folk. She has received Connecticutt’s highest honor for a musician, as Connecticut Troubador. She performs nearly 200 shows a year throughout the United States, Mexico, Central America and Europe and has shared the stage with Harry Belafonte, Dar Williams, Peter Yarrow [of Peter, Paul & Mary], and the late Pete Seeger. Thrilled to appear at Monson’s summer music series, she’ll be performing her own original songs as well as some classic folk sing-alongs. This is a performance you don’t want to miss!

The GlenwoodMills Band is a four piece band hailing from the western Massachusetts area. Fronted by the dynamic vocalist Lissy Marie, GMB offers a wide ranging and eclectic blend of classic rock, pop and blues.

The bands for July and August are returning to the Gazebo from the concert series a year ago, when they were well received. Special K, a band with a home base in Chicopee, MA, combines Phyllis Ann Lataille’s percussive rhythm guitar & spirited vocals, and Ken Kucza’s astounding lead guitar & throaty vocals, producing a powerful blend that delivers a delightful mix of original and cover songs.

T.I.M.E. features classic rock, and is headed by lead vocalist Tammy Belisle. Tammy is a singer-songwriter originally from Ludlow who currently resides in Belchertown, Mass. Tammy has a powerful, rich voice, with seething vocals, sincere lyrics and spicy guitar licks. She is the founder and lead singer/guitarist for the band T.I.M.E. (Together It's More Enjoyable), an area favorite.

The Arts Council is looking for Vendors to participate and sell their wares. Booths are offered at $40, or $25 with a raffle donation for the season. If interested please contact Faith Ward at 860.230.3222.
