The mission of the Monson Arts Council Music Committee is to provide Monson and the surrounding communities with the opportunity to gain an understanding of and appreciation for music, as listeners and performers.
In order to serve this mission, we anticipate coordinating our efforts in the following areas:
- To support people of all ages in their quest to make music a part of life-long learning.
- To provide opportunities and venues for participation in musical performance and learning activities.
- To partner with the public schools to ensure that students have diverse and ongoing opportunities to have music in their lives.
- To inform the community about music events, and performance and educational opportunities, in the surrounding area.
Monson Arts Council Fall Concert Announced
The Monson Arts Council has announced the next in its Fall Concert Series, which will take place on December 10th at 7 pm in the Unitarian Universalist Church in Monson. The concert will once again be presented in the “Coffeehouse” format which includes an intermission schmooze time to bring the audience in intimate contact with the performer.
The performers for this concert will be Amy Herrera, a local favorite from Sturbridge who performs solo and also with her band “The Mama Bear”. Amy performed solo in Monson on August 28 in the 1st Annual "Concert of HOPE" which celebrated women's issues with music, poetry and art. For the fall concert she will also be performing solo, with her mix of original tunes, folk and favorites.
Amy Herrera has been playing music in front of audiences solo since she was 13 years old. You can find this mother of three singing a variety of songs cultivated from influences spanning from Joni Mitchell to B.B. King. She is also the creator of the Chapel Apple concert series. Hosted by Mama Bear Booking Agency, this show features music by local and touring musicians Amy says this series has been a long time dream. "I wanted to create a show that caters to the original artist. So many people have gifts to give, or music that connects with people. You can hear cover songs at almost any bar. This series is dedicated to bringing people something genuine, and personal. Since kicking off in April, we've done just that, with great success."
